We are in the midst of a war! We are fighting against the evil within ourselves and we are called to sacrifice in light of this. How do we make this sacrifice? How can we fight when the fight is with ourselves? What does Jesus mean by cutting off one’s hand and foot and tearing out one’s eye? Aren't these good things that God has given to us?

When the people hear about Jesus teaching them to feed on his flesh, they begin grumbling. What will his disciples do? What will you do? Where will we go if we leave Jesus? Is there anywhere else to go?

In our passage from the Gospel of St. John, Jesus says that we are to eat his flesh and then that we are to feed on his flesh and drink his blood. What does Jesus mean? How are we to feed on Jesus? Father Jeremiah walks us through this passage and helps us to lay hold of the truth of what Jesus is telling us today.

Jesus feeding the five thousand and their families is more than just taking care of hunger pains. Jesus is more than a spiritual vending machine, much, much more! In Father Jeremiah's sermon, he considers the depths to which Jesus fulfills our true needs.

It's easy to put ourselves in the middle of the biblical story. Too often we think of the actions of the main character as being what we are supposed to do. The truth is though that we aren't the main characters. Really we are the side characters and that changes everything.

We worship a God who is different from all other gods. Our God is a trinity of persons who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This God has redeemed us from our sins and only a God who is a Trinity can do this. Only a God who is a Trinity can can change our hearts so that we can worship Him.
